Despite leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to the best record in the NBA for two consecutive seasons, many people assume that LeBron James will sign with another team this summer. For years, there has been talk of the offseason before the start of the 2010-2011 season. The free agency period is said to be the most-important one since 2000. It seems odd that this mythical free agency period is only three months away.

LeBron James has been the most-talked about possible free agent of 2010. James said that he would not re-sign with the team until they were serious about creating a contender. He did not want the same team that lost to Orlando to return to action this season. That is the primary reason of why he did not sign an extension with the team. It was that and the fact that he and the other free agents are waiting their teams out together.

Ever since 2007, there have been discussions about LeBron James leaving his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers to join the New York Knicks. Currently, the Knicks are enduring years of bad luck. They are hoping to have broken a mirror, so that the streak can end at seven years. In the mind of the Knicks, the best way to bring good fortune back to the team would be to add LeBron James to their roster. Despite all of the cap space that New York has, they are not a playoff contender. Ironically, the Miami Heat, winners of eight games in a row and a lock for the playoffs, have enough cap space to sign two superstars to max contracts. Add the fact that they are a good team to the fact that they already feature one of the NBA's best players, a rising talent, no income tax, and warm weather, and anyone would choose there over New York.

However, for LeBron James, that would mean leaving his team to join with one of his biggest rivals in the NBA and a sense of pride emerges. Most sports analysts feel that if the Cleveland Cavaliers do not win a championship this season that LeBron James will leave. However, James' concept goes 100% against that, he feels that if he does not lead the team to a title this season that it is his duty to re-sign. When he was first drafted by the Cavaliers, in 2003, he promised to deliver to them an NBA title. James would go back on that promise if he were to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers without delivering his promise of a championship.
