After freshmen phenoms, Greg Oden and Mike Conley, left Ohio State for the bright lights of the NBA, the Buckeyes were left with young players, such as Evan Turner. The freshman out of Chicago, Illinois did not receive much playing time. But, each season, Turner built upon his skill set. By the time he started the 2009-2010 season, Evan Turner was projected to be one of the top players in college.

For most of the season, Evan Turner was just that. However, he received a major injury early in the season. Most of the earlygoings of the season took place without him. However, upon his return, Turner had the Buckeyes playing the best basketball since the days of Oden and Conley. He led them to the Big East title and the second seed in the NCAA tournament.

Winning the award was the last thing that Evan Turner expected. Upon his December 5 injury, the only thing on his mind was getting back on the court. When he was finally able to get back on the court, he wanted to help his team make a run. Not only did his team make a run, but they would win their conference. That led to the Ohio State Buckeyes landing the second seed in the NCAA tournament. The efforts from Evan Turner, who missed time early in the season, have not gone unnoticed.

Two days ago, the Associated Press named Evan Turner as their Player of the Year. Turner and his friends placed the trophy in the trunk of his car and carried it back to the Ohio State campus.
