But, the Mavericks and the Jazz have emerged as the biggest possible threat to the Lakers. As strong as their rivals, the Denver Nuggets have been, they have lost their hold on the second spot. They have slipped all of the way to the fifth spot. Still, they could possibly defeat the Lakers in a playoff series. But, the chances of that happening are very slim because the Nuggets would be giving up home court advantage. Much like the aforementioned Denver Nuggets, the Mavericks and the Jazz could possibly defeat the Lakers in a playoff series. But, unlike the Nuggets, the Mavericks and Jazz could possibly leapfrog the Lakers. If that were to happen, they would still have the ability to defeat the Lakers and have home court advantage. Kobe Bryant is positive that they can defeat teams without having home court advantage, but he does not like taking chances.
