Ten years ago, the league that gave the NBA an historic run for its money came back. Initially, the league was marketed as a rival to the establishment, much like the original ABA. However, their run as a competitor to the NBA ended when the league took a year off to reorganize. Upon its return, the ABA found itself as a league that is only a bit better than high school basketball without the organization.

The ABA CEO, Joe Newman sometimes insists that his league can compete with the NBA. It is possible that the new ABA could compete with the NBA, but some changes will have to take place first. Each year, the league takes on more teams than it can handle and only a few teams are able to make it throughout the season.
