What was supposed to be a grand return has not turned out so great for Rafer Alston. He has bounced from team-to-team over the past few seasons and he always spoke of returning to Miami. Alston played for the Heat in 2004 and built a strong relationship with Dwyane Wade. Two seasons later, Wade would be considered the best player in the league.

Fast forward to 2010 and Rafer Alston is playing point guard for one of the worst teams in NBA history. Meanwhile, the Miami Heat are struggling to find consistency. The entire time, Alston was thinking that things could be better in Miami, while the Heat was thinking that they would be better if they had a legitimate point guard. This mutual attraction led to Rafer Alston coming down to Miami in a trade.

Despite adding Rafer Alston to their roster, the struggles for the Miami Heat continued. They never were able to find consistency. The main reason that the Alston deal was made was because of his play in the 2009 NBA Playoffs. With Orlando Magic star, Jameer Nelson, done for the season, Alston stepped up to become a key player for the Magic as they dethroned the Boston Celtics and defeated the heavily-favored Cleveland Cavaliers. The Heat needed a player to spark them in this way, instead they received another player that was inconsistent.

The addition of Rafer Alston has done little to spark the Miami Heat and he left the team after being benched despite a win over Atlanta. Because of his absence, Pat Riley suspended Rafer Alston and it was not clear when they would allow him to return. Many, including Alston, felt that he would be done for the remainder of the season. Yesterday, it was revealed that this is indeed the case. For Alston, it is a bit of relief because of the fact that his sister is struggling, mentally. He has enough money, as it is, but he really needs to take some time off to be with his sister.

Rafer Alston has been suspended for the remainder of the 2009-2010 NBA season.
