Two years ago, a legitimate debate was who should be drafted first overall in the NBA Draft, Michael Beasley or Derrick Rose. When it ended up being Rose drafted first, a lot of people were surprised and fans of the Miami Heat thought that they had a steal. Things were completely different, two years ago, as the Heat had posted the worst record in the NBA. Currently, they are on a tear.

Last season, the play of Dwyane Wade led the Heat to a redemption season. The play of Michael Beasley was a disappointment. After having a tough summer, Beasley promised to dominate coming into this season. Early on, he did just that, along with Jermaine O'Neal. The result of their action led to the Heat beating quality teams, early on. But, once they lost to Cleveland, they went back to normal.

The main reason for that slip was because Michael Beasley went into a season-long slump. Every now and again, the Heat would improve and some thought that they could contend. Each time they made a significant move in the standings, they would match their three-game winning streak with a three-game losing streak. Before the All-Star break, the Miami Heat went on another three-game winning streak, but their losing streak exceeded three-games and balooned to a five-game losing streak. The team had a major meltdown following this losing streak.

It was then that the sports media began looking at the free-falling Heat. They began to slip, just as the other teams began to heat up. Throughout the season, they held slim leads over the Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks, and Charlotte Bobcats. Nothing that anyone said could motivate them and it appeared as if the team may really end up losing their longtime hero in Dwyane Wade. Just as things began to look bad, the Heat responded with a season-high five game winning streak that continued even as Wade sat out with injury. In the time since, Miami has gone 12-3. Even with the Heat playing like contenders, Michael Beasley had yet to step up.

Playing against the lowly Detroit Pistons, Beasley promised to prove his worth. Many people expected this game to be an easy win for the Heat. While they would have an easy win, it did not start out that way. Like in most games, the Heat sat back and watched Dwyane Wade take all of the shots. But, with a custody battle with his wife, there were other things on his mind. It is safe to say that Dwyane Wade had a bad shooting night. Because of this, the Pistons ran the Heat like it was the 2005 playoffs. Midway through the first quarter, it appeared as if Miami may really be in trouble. But, Michael Beasley had other plans for his team. Before the game, he promised to come through.

For the rest of the first quarter and throughout the game, Michael Beasley controlled the flow. He, not Wade, would lead the Miami Heat to their season-high, sixth consecutive victory. Along the way, he also was able to score 28 points and 9 rebounds. The win boosted the Miami Heat to a 41-34 record, this is their first time being seven games over .500 since the 2005-2006 season, their championship season. Also, the Heat has not played this good since their title season. Despite the strong play, there are not too many people outside of Miami that feel that the Heat could make a run past the first round.
