Despite all of the records set by the Dallas Mavericks, one thing they have not done is win the NBA championship. Recently, the team made history again. This time, however, it is because they have had ten straight seasons with 50 or more wins. Mark Cuban just hopes that the outcome will be different this time. Each year, Dallas finds themselves in the mix, but somehow, they never make it to the promised land.
After beating the Spurs, in 2006, it appeared as if the Mavericks had finally turned the corner of contention. Back in 2006, it had been five years of losing to San Antonio and it appeared as if the torch had been passed. Some people called that series the "real" 2006 NBA Finals. Once the Miami Heat emerged as the 2006 Eastern Conference Champions, everyone felt that Dallas would win the championship. The only people who felt the Heat had a chance were the Heat, themselves and they began to doubt when Dallas went up 2-0 in the series. But, since game three of the 2006 finals, things have not been the same for the Mavericks. They started 0-4 to the next season and lost in the first round of the playoffs.
The closest that Dallas has come to success since was their upset over the Spurs in the first round of the playoffs last year. However, there have been times during this season when it appeared as if the Mavericks could redeem themselves. Recently, they locked down their tenth straight 50 win season and Mark Cuban hopes that this history-making season will make notable history. More than anything, Mark Cuban wants to help his Mavericks celebrate their first NBA title, the one they should have celebrated four years ago.
