Howard, Magic rally to defeat Cavs
With the 2009-2010 season winding down, the Cleveland Cavaliers have made a repeat of last season and landed the best record in the East. Because of their hard work, early on, the Cavs have decided to rest LeBron James until the start of the playoffs. With LeBron out of the game, the Magic looked to pick up a late-season win over their likely opponent in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Hoping to gain some much-needed momentum against the team that they bounced last season, the Magic had to dig deep. Perhaps inspired by last season's six game loss to the Magic, Cleveland has given Orlando fits throughout the season. Even with LeBron James out of the game, the Magic still had trouble pulling off the win. Antawn Jamison played strong early and had the Cavs out in front.
In the first quarter, the Cavaliers, led by the strong play of Jamison, the Cavs led by as many as 11 points. Despite the good play, early on, the Magic never gave up. Being down by double-digits, the Magic found other ways to keep themselves in the game. During the second quarter, the Magic played strong basketball and they cut into the Cleveland lead, trailing by two at the half. They kept the pressure on in the third quarter and led by five going into the fourth quarter.
Following the strong third quarter, the Magic held onto their lead in the fourth quarter. They did just enough to hold off the Cavs and earn their 57th win on the season. Led by 25 points from both Dwight Howard and Vince Carter, the Magic picked up a much-needed win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. The win will not do anything to change the playoff seeding, but the Magic hope that if they face the Cavs in the Eastern Finals, they can use this game as momentum.
