For most of the season, the Denver Nuggets have been in contention for the second seed in the West. They have held on to the second spot for most of the season. However, that does not mean that it has come easy. The Nuggets have slipped a few times. Their latest slip saw them fall all of the way down to the fifth seed.

When the Dallas Mavericks won 13 games in a row, it appeared as if they had passed the Nuggets for second. Then, the Utah Jazz went on a similar run that put them in front of the Nuggets. Only one week ago, it was not looking good for Denver. Only one week before that, it appeared as if they were going to pass the Lakers for the first seed.

Despite the Lakers obviously not being the team that they were last season, they still have a grip on the West. However, the Nuggets realize that they cannot lose any ground from last season. Ever since their losing streak, the Nuggets have put together two straight wins that have placed them right back into the second seed. Their Wednesday win over Oklahoma City did the trick. Behind the impressive play of Chauncey Billups, Denver overcame a strong game from Kevin Durant and won.
