However, the Denver Nuggets came into the Wednesday game struggling. Meanwhile, the Celtics are simply holding on to their third spot in the playoffs. Tied with the Hawks coming into the game, there were a lot of reasons that Boston needed to win the game. But, the Nuggets were looking to rebound, especially after the loss of their head coach, George Karl, for the remainder of the season.

Early in the game, Denver kept things close. Chauncey Billups was becoming a thorn in the side of the Celtics. There were times when it appeared as if the Nuggets would take the game over. In the first half, they had plenty of opportunities. But, the intensity of the home crowd got Boston going and Paul Pierce began connecting on his shots. In the third quarter, the Nuggets were able to cut into what was a ten point lead at halftime. The second half is when Carmelo Anthony would really get things going, he would score a game-high 32 points.

But, in the fourth quarter, the Celtics would double their lead against the Nuggets and come through with key defensive stops. This would lead to 27 points from Paul Pierce, which led the Boston Celtics to a 113-99 win and their third straight trip to the NBA Playoffs.
