Diddy defied the odds when he created Sean John, in 1998. In spite of what the critics said, he turned the dream into a multimillion dollar enterprise. By 2004, it was clear Sean John was more than a fad. Diddy made this official when he opened the flagship Sean John store on Fifth Avenue.
Over the past six years, Diddy has made more and more deals, making him more and more wealthy. These deals have resulted in Sean John expanding into fragrance and other novelty items. In the summer of 2010, Diddy signed an exlusive deal with Macy's to carry Sean John.
The deal with Macy's is what some speculate led to the closing of the flagship store. Ever since Diddy entered the deal with the high-end department store, his sales in other retail outlets have diminished. While he has not spoken on exactly what led to the closing of the Sean John Fifth Avenue store, Diddy has confirmed that he will miss having a place in the area.
