For those who recall, this is not the first time that Michael Jordan attempted to purchase an NBA franchise. He was a part of the Washington Wizards' organization for years. Because of the success of the Hornets, Shinn demanded that a new arena be constructed in downtown Charlotte with money from the taxpayers. The proposal was voted on by the people and they turned it down, because of that, Shinn relocated the team to New Orleans.
Because of the success of the Hornets, David Stern promised the city of Charlotte that a new team would replace the Hornets in Charlotte. Before the Hornets left, BET founder, Bob Johnson had made an offer to purchase the team. Eventually, he would be turned down by Shinn and he was granted the ownership of the new Charlotte franchise in return. Michael Jordan had also made a bid for the Hornets and Johnson would invite Jordan to become a part-owner and the President of Basketball Operations for the Bobcats. Last summer, Johnson revealed his plans to sell the team and Michael Jordan purchased the Bobcats a few weeks ago.

He said that if he had been given another chance that he would have kept the team in Charlotte.
