Two weeks ago, Michael Jordan became the owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. He has been with the team since 2006, but he has not had the freedom to do what he has wanted. BET founder, Bob Johnson has owned the team since it entered the NBA in 2004. Unlike most owners, he was unwilling to sign high-level talent to the team. Jordan, on the other hand, will do what he has to in order to make the Bobcats into contenders. When he played in the NBA, Michael Jordan was known for his competitive nature and he brings that same nature into the front office.

In the years that Johnson owned the Bobcats, there was not much money spent to find top-level talent. Johnson insisted that the team use the draft to find talent. Starting in 2006, that was Michael Jordan's job. Despite his record as a great player, Jordan was viewed as a horrible executive. In the past, he has used top picks to draft the likes of Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison. However, in 2009, he drafted Gerald Henderson. Never before has Jordan drafted a player that went on to become a star. While it does not look like it, Michael Jordan wants Gerald Henderson to be a star.

As previously mentioned, the competitive nature of Michael Jordan will not allow him to go down without a fight. He had attempted to deal Henderson to the Indiana Pacers, but once that deal fell through, he committed himself to Henderson. Since it was ultimately his decision to draft Gerald Henderson, Jordan's first act as owner was to get to know his top draft pick. His method of breaking the ice was by playing a regular game of HORSE. After losing the first game to Henderson, Jordan issued a rematch that he would also lose. Following these losses, Michael Jordan approached Larry Brown and demanded that Gerald Henderson receive more playing time. For the past few games, Henderson has played important minutes.

Before the start of the season, some people predicted that Gerald Henderson could possibly average 15 to 20 points per game this season. There have been times when Henderson proved that he is better than what his stats show. Early in the season, he scored 15 against the Raptors, but Larry Brown hardly plays him. As the season moves forward and the Bobcats fight for a playoff spot, expect Gerald Henderson to receive more playing time. While it does not look like it, Michael Jordan wants Henderson to become the key piece of the puzzle that is the Charlotte Bobcats. The minutes have increased and Brown stated that he wants the rookie guard to become more involved in the offense. With Stephen Jackson aging and Stephen Graham limited, the weight of the team is being placed upon such youngsters as Gerald Henderson, Derrick Brown, and Tyrus Thomas.
