Early this season, the Miami Heat were playing above expectations. They got off to an impressive 6-1 start and they were not relying on Dwyane Wade. Former All-Star, Jermaine O'Neal, promised that he would step up for the team. He, along with the rest of the Heat did so in the early goings of the season. But, following their 111-104 home loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Heat sunk back into reality.

The Cleveland loss led to many other losses for the Heat. Each time, a speech from their head coach, Erik Spoelstra, would come and Wade would carry the Heat to three-consecutive wins. At one point, after the Heat defeated the Orlando Magic, it appeared that they may actually go on a run. But, each time, Miami would lose to a team that they were favored to beat. This includes the Wizards and the Grizzlies, both at home.

Despite the inconsistent play, Miami had managed to keep things together. They stayed above the .500 mark for most of the season, except for a tough stretch, in which they fell two games below .500. But, after losing their fifth game in a row, Dwyane Wade pulled the team together and they won five in a row, two while Wade was out with injury. In the end, the Heat proved that they were not too good without Wade, though. That five-game winning streak quickly transformed to a three game losing streak, as Dwyane Wade remained out. But, upon his return, the Heat have played strong.

When the month of March rolled around, the Miami Heat sat in ninth place in the East. In other words, they were well out of playoff contention. Not wanting to miss the playoffs, Dwyane Wade has led the Heat to impressive victories over the Lakers, Hawks, Bobcats, and Bulls. Closing out the season, Wade let his team know that they had to remain strong. Most of their games are against teams that they are capable of beating. The Heat have lost a few games, but they have risen from out of playoff contention and into the sixth playoff spot. While they would not have homecourt advantage, they would not face Cleveland or Orlando in the first round, as it currently stands.

The latest performance from Dwyane Wade solidified that. There is still a chance that the Heat could lose their grip on the sixth spot, he made sure it did not happen in New Jersey. Throughout the season, the Heat have played close games with the Nets. For most of the Monday game, they trailed, but they put together a strong third quarter run and they closed the game out with a victory.
